Driver Tee Position in Golf

Most coaches will want you to hit the driver on the UPSWING – i.e. just after it has reached its swing bottom  and started to ascend. This is, I believe, difficult to do consistently – and provides for inconsistent ball flight.

I would , much rather, make contact at the BOTTOM of my swing path – so that I can easily swing THROUGH the ball. This provides me with solid impact – and square clubface impact. In fact, I don’t know of any other way to make SQUARE face impact – than the one I just described.

Where should one tee the ball – for the driver?

Not opposite the left heel. Just a bit short of that (half an inch short of that). Think of the driver as an ELONGATED 3 wood. If you hit your 3 wood well , but not your driver, chances are you are the victim of this poor advice (teeing it opposite your left heel – and impact on the UPSWING). If you simply imagine yourself holding a 3 wood in your hand – make the same swing that you would with your 3 wood – and watch the driver kill the ball. The only change you have to make is in the ball position – a little further back (from inner left heel) – and a little lower tee.

Try it and see if you hit your driver further.
